Volunteers
Peer support is such a powerful way in which we help one another, you don’t need any formal qualifications, peer support relies on you using your own lived experiences to offer empathy and support to others. We offer training and support you throughout your volunteer journey with us.
Light is a charity providing peer support across South Yorkshire & beyond for families affected by mental illness associated with pregnancy and childbirth, in particular post natal depression / anxiety. Light was founded by two Sheffield mums with a history of post natal depression, and an NHS volunteer who wanted to improve awareness and support for local families affected by these illnesses. Many of Light’s volunteers are parents who have recovered from perinatal mental illness.
We would like to truly thank you for all your help and support because without you we would not be able to provide the amazing support our families need.
Volunteering opportunities include:

-
- Group facilitating and playworker roles for our weekly peer support groups
- One-to-one ‘buddy’ for a mum or dad who needs support
- Email/ phone/ forum support to families experiencing perinatal mental illness
- Trustees
- Fundraising, publicity & raising awareness
- Office administration support
- Dad’s support volunteers! We need MEN!
- Counselors
