This year has been a long hard year for so many of us, and here Light we have felt the struggles.
We have adapted to a new way of working and learn as we go throughout the year, and as the year ends it is a good time to reflect and look back at all we have achieved as a charity working in a global pandemic.
I’m sure we’re all making new year’s resolutions to make 2021 a better year, have you thought about volunteering a couple of hours a week to help other mums and dads who are struggling with their mental health. volunteering brings a great sense of achievement. Peer support is such a powerful way in which we help one another, you don’t need any formal qualifications, peer support relies on you using your own lived experiences to offer empathy and support to others. We offer training and support you throughout your volunteer journey with us.
We would like to truly thank you for all your help and support because without you we would not be able to provide the amazing support our families need.
Light is a charity providing peer support across South Yorkshire & beyond for families affected by mental illness associated with pregnancy and childbirth, in particular post natal depression / anxiety. Light was founded by two Sheffield mums with a history of post natal depression, and an NHS volunteer who wanted to improve awareness and support for local families affected by these illnesses. Many of Light’s volunteers are parents who have recovered from perinatal mental illness.
Volunteering opportunities include:
- Group facilitating and playworker roles for our weekly peer support groups
- One-to-one ‘buddy’ for a mum or dad who needs support
- Email/ phone/ forum support to families experiencing perinatal mental illness
- Fundraising, publicity & raising awareness
- Office administration support
- Dad’s support volunteers! We need MEN!
