Wellbeing Walks to bring Light to the Darker Days

It’s 7am (Or possibly earlier!). You’ve been awake most of the night with the baby that’s currently crying in your arms.
You plod into the living room and open the curtains to see rain bouncing off the pavement outside and a mass of deep grey clouds above, the wind blowing autumn leaves down the street. You sigh, roll your eyes and think ’Not today’…
Can you relate to this? Do you see the weather outside in the morning and let it determine what you do, or don’t, do today?
Do you see the rain and clouds and think “We’ll have a cosy day today?”
It’s ok to have indoor days; it’s healthy, even. There absolutely has to be a balance.
But when the weather turns and autumn begins to show her colours, the days can quickly become darker, in more ways than one.
The benefits of fresh air and a quick walk
When you’re already tired, or maybe even exhausted, getting out of the house in adverse weather can seem like even more of a chore then normal (And we all know how challenging that can be!) But this can be when it’s most important to get yourself and baby out in the fresh air.
Research (University of York- 2021) shows that as little as 15 minutes walking outdoors each day can increase Dopamine and Serotonin, your body’s “feel good” hormones.
