Garfield Weston Foundation grant to support families affected by perinatal mental health
Earlier this month, Light was awarded a generous £10,000 grant from the Garfield Weston Foundation to help support families in Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham who are struggling with their mental health during the perinatal period.*
The Garfield Weston Foundation is a family founded grant-maker that gives money to support a wide range of charities across the UK. This grant will play a vital role in helping Light continue to provide a range of support for families at this pivotal time in their lives.
How the Garfield Weston Foundation grant will help Light peer support?
Light peer support groups, 1-2-1 sessions and counselling are given to women and their families experiencing mental health issues. All sessions are hosted by a member of staff, or a volunteer, who have each experienced their own difficulties, emotionally and mentally, during the perinatal period.
Helen Miles, Light’s Chief Executive, said “This grant will help to ensure we can continue to run our vital services and reach those who are struggling at a truly crucial time in their lives; providing them with the support they need which ultimately benefits them and their baby’s futures.”
Follow Light on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn for updates on the difference this grant will make over the coming months.
How can I help Light Peer Support?
Grants like the one from Garfield Weston Park are vital to ensure Light can continue to operate and support families across Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham.
But you can help too. Every single penny that is donated to Light is used to help run the charity, buy welcome packs for parents that register for support, supply refreshments and so much more. Maybe you’re doing a challenge event this year or could donate the equivalent of one of your takeaway coffees, your donation will be used to help show someone that there is Light at the end of the tunnel.
*The perinatal period is the time during pregnancy up to the child’s second birthday
