Support for families
At Light we know that being a parent is not always easy and sometimes we all need support.
Light’s peer support groups & 1:1 sessions offer a safe and friendly place for you to come and feel supported by our trained staff, volunteers and to meet others experiencing similar things to yourself.
Peer support groups
We understand that coming to a group, especially for the first time, can be difficult for many people. Our small, informal groups are facilitated by trained staff & volunteers who are always there to offer peer support.
Find a support group near you
Spaces are limited for our support groups, spaces need to be booked beforehand.
One to one sessions
If you don’t feel that group is for you at the moment, we can offer other forms of support. This could be one to one support via videocall, telephone, text or email. We also offer access to our online Facebook community where you can log on and chat to other parents, share experiences and offer support and tips.
Find out more about one to one sessions and contact us to book.
Telephone and email
Our volunteers and staff can provide text, telephone and email support to parents who aren’t able or do not like face to face sessions. We can offer information and signposting to other resources, or just a listening ear. Please contact us if you feel like you need to talk to someone.

Light offers a free counselling service to parents already engaged with Light support.
Light provide supervised counselling placements to 4th year Therapeutic Counselling students who offer free counselling sessions as part of their final year of study. Sessions are 50 minutes long and are held at the Light offices, Knowle House, 4 Norfolk Park Road, Sheffield, S2 3QE.
