Light Peer Support wellbeing walks are all set to go

Light is thrilled to have received £2,000 from the Westfield Health Giving Back Committee for our brand-new wellbeing walks project, Walk with Light.
This grant from Westfield Health means that the walks are now guaranteed to go ahead as the project is now fully funded.
Light Peer Support (Light) provides a range of support services to improve the mental health of new parents and parents to be who are struggling during the perinatal period (the time between conception and the child’s second birthday). Services include peer support groups, one-to-one sessions, counselling and online support.
Westfield Health are a values driven health and wellbeing company with almost 9,000 corporate clients across the UK and Europe. Their giving back strategy aims to make a healthy difference by funding great causes, volunteering time and skills, and working to build long-term community partnerships.
What is Walk with Light?
Walk with Light is a new project which has been developed by one of Light’s peer support workers, Tina, after she took part in a similar project. The walks, due to start in March this year, will be held around green spaces across Sheffield for groups of mums and/or dads with their babies.
The aim is to get parents out of the house, as some new parents struggle to do this. Additionally, we aim to improve their confidence, and support them to open up to both support workers and the other parents.
Tina said: “I took part in a wellbeing walks project and, although my son is now seven years old, they have given me confidence and helped my anxiety, and I now feel confident taking him on public transport – something I never felt able to do before.
“We have been able to share new experiences and make memories which is invaluable, and we have both felt the benefit of these experiences. I want to be able to give this opportunity to other mums so they, and their babies, can be happier, healthier, both mentally and physically, and thrive”
Westfield Health supports wellbeing
Hope Zelly, Westfield Health Community Ambassador, said: “Westfield Health are delighted to support Light’s new wellbeing walks project. Our funds aim to support causes to make a healthy difference and Light’s wellbeing walks will do just that at a vital time for new parents and their babies. We look forward to hearing all about the project.”
Tina added “I’m delighted we have secured the full costs to fund the Walk with Light and cannot wait to be able to offer much needed support to parents, alongside some fresh air and exercise to help them on their journey to better mental wellbeing. On behalf of everyone at Light and the parents we support, thank you to Westfield Health for helping make this exciting new project happen.”
